The Wanderer was my first camper to remodel. It was a 2006 Gulfstream. It feels like a lifetime ago, but also like it was yesterday. We got this camper because the fisherdaddy was starting to compete in tournaments and wanted the fam to come along, too. We were expecting our 5th baby at the time and I thought, ‘sure- we can get a tent and go on a family camping trip. Fun.’ But then I started adding up all the things we would need if we wanted to camp comfortably and I said, ‘we could buy a camper for the cost of all this stuff.’ So I found one and told the hubby to pick it up after work 😉 When it arrived it was so much uglier than I thought it would be, but being the ‘glass is half full’ person that I am I just went to work to make it not so ugly 🙂
I found myself thinking about this camper on my drive to and from work, throughout the day, and when I would fall asleep. I LOVED this project. It was a creative place for my mind to go. I was not as stressed about day to day things since this new hobby found me and I was excited about the little moments here and there that I got to work on it.
We camped in the wanderer several times that year and to this day I still love that layout. This camper was called a ‘FEMA camper’ which had sort of a negative connotation with it, but it had a full size fridge, a separate master bedroom, a functional kitchen and dining area, bunk beds, and slept 8. I’d say it was a pretty great camper.
I ended up selling it because I looked at the upcoming year and knew there was no way we would have time to use it- plus we would be moving soon and it would be one less thing to have to move- and also because I wanted to do another camper remodel project!
Here is the finished camper- the wanderer!
Until the next adventure,
I am a mommy of 8 awesome kiddos. We are building a classic colonial home. I love remodeling vintage campers and my hubby enjoys fishing when he is not in the operating room. We live a fun life and I love sharing ideas to help make life easier for other mommas. Hope you enjoy our page!
The Landmark camper is definitely one of my all time favorites. This is a 2016…
