Finding Your Passion

I get asked all the time how I got into camper flipping. I usually just laugh and say that we found each other because it is pretty much true! But I started to think about this a little more the other day after a mom said to me, “I wish I had something like that outside of raising kids to bring me such joy and refuel me to be the best I can be for my family.”

Have you ever met someone who has a passion that they love? They talk about it and come alive. They have a presence about them that is not normal- haha! They are full of life and happiness. Others are intrigued by this and long to find the same fulfillment.

I believe everyone can have this type of happiness. Finding a passion can be tricky, and a lot of times someone finds it without even realizing they were looking! That is what happened to me. We wanted to go on more family vacations and thought that camping would be something we would all enjoy. We got a camper and I looked at it and my first thought was, “this thing is soooo ugly. But I see potential.”

I started making our camper more homey for our family trips and in doing so I found something that eventhough I had worked all day it gave me energy. When I was working in the camper time stood still. I could be in there for hours and swear I had only been working for 20 minutes.

For me, camper flipping was the perfect combo of designing and creating and was a challenge to learn new skills. It was also rewarding to take something and make it better for our family or for another family.

When I am working on campers I do not have a care in the world. I don’t think of anything except the current project that I am doing and what I get to look forward to next. It is my happy place.

The neat thing about doing something you love is when you are later with the people that you love you are rejuvenated and full of energy and happiness. When my kids start to bicker I just mentally go to camper flipping and I start to think about camper decor or what I want to work on next.

I realize camper flipping is not for everyone, but those examples are true for any passion. On occasion a hobby (or passion) becomes a job! Then you have hit the jackpot! Let’s jump in to how you can find your passion:

  • What is something you do that time stands still?
  • What is something that you enjoy to learn more about?
  • What is something that you could talk about for hours?
  • What is something that you watch others doing and dream of?
  • What is something that you think of when your mind wanders?
  • What is something that you enjoy following on social media?
  • What is something you enjoyed as a child that you don’t do anymore?
  • What is something you enjoy doing with your hands?
  • What is something you enjoy thinking about?
  • What is something you enjoy reading about?
  • What is something you would do if you could do anything for a living?
  • What is a skill you know that few others do?
  • What is something you would like your children to know how to do?

These questions may help you hone in on a passion. Here is a list of hobbies that many people enjoy that may resonate with you:

  • Fishing, hunting, painting, sewing, quilting, reading, woodworking, DIY projects, crafting, scrapbooking, videography, photography, writing, blogging, teaching, walking, running, mentoring, working out, cooking, bicycling, canoeing, fly fishing, hiking, scuba diving, sports, volleyball, tennis, pickle ball, basketball, softball, trivia, volunteering, gardening, collecting, yoga, coaching, jewelry making, calligraphy, bird watching, rock climbing, swimming, dancing, bowling, coloring, puzzles, lego, comedy, candle making, soap making, learn an instrument

This is not an all inclusive list by any means, but read through it and if something sparks an interest try it! If you don’t like it that’s okay- try something else. I truly believe that finding a hobby you enjoy helps make you a more rounded person and improve quality of life at home and at work.

Until next time,
